The Hawaiian Heroes project/tournament is a large amount of assignments that we have created based on a hero chosen at the beginning of last quarter. With this project, we had to choose a Hawaiian hero (or villain) from Hawaii’s history and research them. We had to complete many tasks, such as a quiz show and an argumentative essay. After presenting or participating in it, our classmates would vote between another student and us. Those with the most points competed later in the following rounds. This project required us to use our communication skills in many ways through written assignments, oral presentations, and debating our characters' importance. I am most proud of how well I knew the hero I chose (Father Damien) for this project. I feel I was able to convey a clear message when presenting and arguing why Father Damien was so important or rather why he stuck out so much in Hawaii's history. In the past, I had learned a little about father Damien and who he was, but I really had no idea how much he did for those with Hanson's disease on Molokai and how his influence helped them in many ways.
