Volunteering at Hawaii Nature Center
For my internship credit I ended up volunteering at the nature center up in Iao Valley. Every summer, spring, and fall break they do nature camps for ages 6 to 12. It gives young kids a from around the island an opportunity to learn more about the island they live on, and the various aspects that make up nature, all while getting out and experiences it. I worked Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for five weeks along with 7 other junior volunteers. Each week had about 16 to 20 kids, and following Covid regulations, we did a bunch of activities including fishing, a field trip, hiking, bug hunting, and experiments. It was an overall enriching experience for the kids, and for me as well.
